ROCKS' RC Combat Intel BriefDebrief 2

BATTLE
OVER
WINCHESTER 2000

Sunday, April 30, 2000 - The Plane Crazy RC Club of Winchester hosted the wonderful event! Eleven pilots competed in six rounds of combat! Most pilots brought three or more plane for a total count of over forty planes. But we flew hard, and many planes suffered battle damage. There were about seven midairs, at least two landings short of the field, and one plane suffered radio failure and flew away!

With all competing pilots registered, flying began just after 10 AM.

Out of Towners

In addition to the locals, we had several pilots drive in from other places! Bob Wallace came down from Conneticut with his squadron of Ki-64s. Tony Alvarez drove in from Pennsylvania, did you know he is the only RCCA pilot in PA? Traveling across the state line, Alan Goodman of the Prince George's RC club and Earl Nester of the Southwest Aero Park fliers of Baltimore came in from Maryland. And our very own William "Rocks" Miller came up from Newport News, with a quick stop in Mechanicsville to get a ride with Jack Lewis.

Hard Luck and Winning

I don't think anyone will argue if I say that Jack Lewis hit some hard luck today. He unfortunately midaired one of his P-40s. Sometime later, he lent me the other P-40, which I then midaired. Meanwhile, Jack lost radio control of one of his Hurricanes, and flew into the distance on its own. We spent an hour and a half looking aorund an industrial park, but never found the plane.

Even against those odds, Jack managed to accumulate over 800 points: making him the first place winner.

The Winners!

  • First Place - Jack Lewis
  • Second Place - Rocks
  • Third Place - Tim Lowe
