Open Combat in Newport News, Virginia

Sunday, April 2, 2000 - The Newport News Park Radio Controlled Aeromodel Club held it's first ever combat contest! Eight pilots competed in four rounds of combat to determine the winner. The contest was incredibly exciting! We had two mid-airs, and in the first I unfortunately ran into John Backes. My coroplast and gutter pipe SPAD Dominator went right through his balsa plane.

While this was my first combat event, I know there will be more! The next combat event for the NN Park RC Club is scheduled for July 23 - I'll be there.

Overall the event was incredible! Both the normal parking lot and the overflow lot were full. Spectators lined the viewing area, and the bleachers were full! I don't know about anyone else, but I'm hooked. I've already ordered two more combat planes, and I'm hoping to start combat practice soon.
